Health is wealth, as the cliché goes. Indeed, the importance of investing on our health cannot be overemphasized. We invest on supplements that provide us with the vitamins and minerals that our bodies need, we purchase exercise equipment to get our bodies in shape, and we make sure that we drink eight glasses of water a day to keep our bodies hydrated. But, are we aware if the water we are drinking is indeed pure and safe?

While the water that comes out of your faucet may have undergone water treatment, you cannot be totally sure if it is free of elements that contaminate water especially that it has to pass through a long line of pipes. And, contaminants may have been carried along. The four general categories of contaminants in water supplies are the biological entities, the heavy metal, the organic chemicals, and the inorganic chemicals. Good thing advancements in technology have paved the way for water purification methods that help reduce or remove these contaminants from water supplies.

Another good thing is that you can monitor the purity of your own water supply. It is because home water purification systems have been made available. One of your options is to have a system that is installed at the point where your water supply enters your house. You can also opt to have several units around the house.

Moreover, there are systems that are considered as “bactericidal system.” This means that they have the ability to remove any microorganisms that are present in your water supply. Then there are systems that are labeled as “bacteriostatic system” and they slow the rate at which the microorganisms can grow in your water supply.

There are different companies that supply water purifying systems for homes. Before choosing the system, you have to take certain things into consideration. You have to be informed about which system is suited for your household. You have to consider how big your house is as well as your family. Of course, you have to consider the cost, but you may agree that it is not always about the cost. Many companies, however, provide affordable products and services, and all you have to do is research or solicit informed opinions from others. Also, having a system installed in your house would cost you less than buying and having bottled water delivered in your home. Furthermore, it is important to have your supply of water tested for specific contaminants.

There are different techniques used to purify your water supply, and these include carbon filtering, reverse osmosis, and ultraviolet (UV) water purification. They each have their own advantages and disadvantages, so you have to make an informed decision which suits your needs. UV water purification, for instance, can reduce or remove microorganisms such as viruses and bacteria from the water, but they do not remove heavy metals, chlorine, and other chemicals. Thus, as mentioned, it is important to have your water supply tested first.

Because of this need for pure water, water products such as demineralized water, distilled water, bottled water, and deionized water have been known. Their use does not end for drinking purposes, though; they also have industrial uses.

There is no doubt that high quality water is very important especially for our health. And one way of ensuring that the water we use is safe is by having a water purification system right in our very homes. There are debates going on concerning the purification of water that may get us confused. But at the end of the day, it is our own choices that matter and we have to make sure that those choices are made with an informed and sound judgment.
