It is not an easy decision to make when you want to get involved with top franchises with you being the sole proprietor. When you throw in the whole idea of franchising a business, the diligence that is required is detailed and even more intense. The best thing you could do before doing anything else is to get some expert advice and consider the variables. You don’t want to be half-cooked when you go in; you want to be at your brightest, taking in everything. Variables are huge in franchising. As a matter of fact, some negatives appear difficult in nature.
So let’s look at the advantages of this. One thing is for sure, when you do get any franchise opportunities, know that this is a very quick way to start a business. Another advantage is that the company already has a track record and it is already recognized in the business world with the company name. Another great advantage is that the business is already established around products and concepts, and these are pluses that you yourself do not have to endure, because it is all already done for you when you have invested in any of the top franchises.
When the expansion occurs, you as the franchisor will receive endless royalties when concepts take off and develop on national and/or global levels. As the franchisee, the training and expertise are available and are there to propel you to a waiting level of success. It’s right there; all you have to do is reach for it.
Some of the disadvantages are the main issue, and this is called conflicts. When referring to conflicts, it is when the franchisee or franchisor is not competent when they conduct business. If a franchisee is incompetent, this can damage the image of the company very quickly. Also, if a franchisor is incompetent and is not promoting brands and names, this can ruin the attempts the franchisee is trying to make to become successful. The franchisor is not only ruining the franchisee’s chance to become successful, but the franchisor is also ruining their attitude by milking them of their profits and just making them look bad.
Now when it comes to controlling the business and although the business is your business, the franchisee has no complete control over anything, especially the business. You are not the sole owner. You can’t go around calling the shots, and before you do anything you need corporate approval. Don’t be surprised if you need to call up the franchisor and ask permission to go to the bathroom.
