Back in 1998 son asked Dad, "what would you like for Xmas Dad", replied Dad "I would like a car that runs on fresh air". Back then, 10 years ago, Dads reply would have been met with a "yeah yeah, get serious Dad". Run the tape forward to this year and in 10 short years the Air Car is a reality.

Guy Negre is now accepted as one of the leading names in Air Car development which has been ongoing since 1990. Another early developer was Armando Regusci who designed his own air engine which was recognised as being more superior in design and efficiency to such a degree that Guy Negres company, MDI Group, adopted a design similar to that which Regusci had patented in 1990.

Guy Negres background was in aeronautical engineering but amongst his most notable accomplishments are the design of a rotary distributor for the civil aviation industry and the development of a 3.5litre W12 engine for formula1 racing cars.

Since establishing the MDI company in 1991 the first Compressed Air Engine was developed in 1996, in 1998 the first taxi to run on compressed air was introduced. In 1999 the MDI Industrial Concept was rolled out whereby Turnkey Factories can be set up in local regions to manufacture the company vehicles and also an Urban Transport system, industrial tractors, pallet trucks and Power Generator Units, all operating pollution free. Since 2004 MDI have produced a new Compressed Air Engine capable of operating using various additives and also a device named the Active Chamber that greatly improves engine efficiency. So much for the developing compressed Air Car.

There are estimated to be 15 million cars being driven around in various parts of the world which run on either LPG, liquefied petroleum gas or CNG, compressed natural gas.
Some of the benefits of these cars are, both gasses contain no lead, combustion is smoother leading to longer engine life and no carbon dioxide emissions into the environment. Points to consider here are that governments could raise the taxes on the gasses involved and also conversion costs are not cheap

Some frightening data on your non-green petrol engine car might, we hope, encourage motorists to embrace a greener drive and improve the environment. The UK Energy Saving Trust (EST) estimates there are 30 million cars on UK roads and horrendously these vehicles produce their weight in CO2 every 6000 miles. As the average UK mileage per annum is estimated to be 9000 miles a petrol fuelled car is likely to produce 3.47 tonnes of carbon emissions every year, multiply 24 million cars by 3.47tonnes and it totals 83 million tonnes of Co2 emitted in the UK alone,. an estimate for America would be at least 10 times that amount, totalling for the 2 countries over 900 million tonnes of carbon dioxide gas into the atmosphere every year. How proud are we of that? We should all take our environment far more seriously and act now to protect it for the future.
Author Resource:- Bill is now retired but as a keen motorist has driven on most continents of the world and has a keen interest in environmental issues, these account for only a couple of his many varied interests.
