Almost two years ago when so many candidates announced they would run for president, there was much excitement in the air even then. Those first crowded debates were wrought with various opinions about what were the most important issues facing our country. In a matter of months the choice for a Republican candidate was picked as one by one the Republican runners were eliminated. In the end the Republican candidate was John McCain.

For the Democratic Party, the final decision of the official runner was not so easy. The months of sparring between Barrack Obama and Hilary Clinton seemed to go on and on. While it was a long and drawn out affair, it was always interesting. It was a relatively clean competition compared to some, but even as long as it was, it did not get boring listening to them debate. When finally Obama was decided on, many Clinton supporters were clearly disappointed, but overall the majority of Democrats seemed to except the decision and appeared to be outwardly glad the choice had finally been made.

Since the representatives for both parties have at last been chosen, the fire and excitement seems to have died down. Normally, there would be all kinds of nasty jibes being passed back and forth and there have been some, but thus far they have not contained the venom that we have become accustomed to. We have all been saying how tired we are of spite filled political races, but are we somehow waiting around patiently for this race to become a little more intriguing?

Almost anyone you ask will agree that the speeches that Obama has given have been very motivating and spirit filled. If he will just carry out all of the ideals that he has talked about so adamantly in his speeches, we might end up with a great president, but we all know also that even eloquent talk is cheap if it is not backed up by action. For many people listening to Obama speak with the fire that he evokes about the issues, has been one of the most exciting elements of this entire presidential race.

While being unbiased towards either candidate, you must admit that thus far the speeches heard from McCain have been lack luster to say the least. While we all know the importance of our military without a doubt, it seems that this is the only issue he has much to say about and there are so many other problems facing our country at this time.

It remains to be seen how much spark this race has left in it over the coming months. Maybe the flame has dwindled in this race because it has been going on so long. Maybe some of us are just ready for someone new to take the office of president and finally get down to the business of actually getting some real accomplishments made concerning all of the issues that need to be resolved.
