We all have heard how terrifying it can be to wake up in the middle of the night and discover that your home is on fire. It is also just as devastating to leave home and come back only to discover that your home has burned to the ground because no one was there to notify a fire department in time. Fires can start for many different reasons and if they are not extinguished quickly you house could be a total loss.
There are so many ways available to us to help stop this tragedy from taking place. Whether you are home or away you can have measures in place to do everything possible to prevent your home from burning up. When you use all these measures combined the chances of a fire raging out of control are significantly reduced.
Everyone knows the importance of having smoke alarms installed all over the house and making sure they are kept in good working order. This means that the batteries have to be checked for power frequently. A smoke alarm is totally useless if it does not work. It would be a terrible shame to have them in place and then still have your home destroyed because they did not sound an alarm.
While smoke alarms are essential in the home, today there is an even better way to protect your home from not only fires, but an intruder break in as well. There are home monitoring systems that you can buy and pay for monthly or yearly that will automatically alert the home base in case of one of these events. Even if you are not home they will call the fire and police departments for you. This way you are assured that help is on the way the moment the alarm goes off.
Fire equipment in the home is also essential so you can at least attempt to put out a fire that has not yet gotten out of control. It is necessary to have a least one fire extinguisher that you can easily get to if needed. If you have a very large home it is a good idea to have more than one extinguisher so you will not have to go far to get one. Having plenty of outside water hose available is also a good idea. Escape ladders could be life saving if your home has more than one story. There should be one in every bedroom on a second or third floor.
