Today one of the most growing concerns for home owners is finding mold. Some people have owned their homes for years and have never given much thought to mold and what it can do to the value of their home if it is left undetected. It is easy to spot mold growth in some places, but in some areas it is almost impossible to even know it is there unless you go looking for it specifically. It can require some extensive investigating to check out every place where it could be hiding.

You might not be able to check all the areas in the home where mold can hide, but below are the places you can easily check for yourself:

Shower Curtains, Visible Sweating, Pipes Peeling or Cracked Paint, Pots Plants , Refrigerator and the Drain Pan, Under Tile and Carpet, Particle Board Material, Window and Door Frames , Behind Wallpaper , Under Sinks , Ceilings , Behind Baseboards , Any Area that has been Water Damaged Previously

These are just the places that you are likely able to discover mold on your own. Here are some other popular places you can find mold, but you might need to hire a professional to look at theses areas for you: Inside Ductwork , Inside Wall Cavities, Drywall, Fiberglass Insulation , Crawlspaces , Attics , Rooftops.

These places can be difficult for the average homeowner to inspect thoroughly unless you are really innovative. Not everyone wants to get under their house in a crawlspace and may not know what signs to look for in the basement. This is why you might wish to hire someone to go into these places for you.

If you find mold anywhere in your home, you must take the proper steps to get rid of it. If it is on your shower curtain, it will be as simple as washing it with a disinfecting cleaner or if it is plastic just throw it out and get a new one. If you find mold on your walls, ceiling, wall paper, or painted areas especially in a kitchen or bathroom, it could be due to bad ventilation. If you have no exhaust fan installed in these rooms, you need to get them. If you have them and still see mold that recurs, you could need to install stronger units because they might not be large enough to pull all the moisture out of the room fast enough.

If mold is found by a professional behind the walls or underneath flooring, it can get expensive to have this repaired. Hopefully it has not spread very far and repairs will not be too costly. You should check with your insurance company to see if you are covered for the repairs.
