Moisture Plus Humidity Equals Mold

We grow many things in our homes, children, plants, equity, and a lot of love, but the one thing we never want to have growing in our homes is mold. When a home owner finds mold growing somewhere in the house, it can be more frightening these days that in years past. This is simply because all the latest research about mold has found that it can be extremely hazardous to the home itself as well as the people who live in there.

The most common places to find mold growth in the home will be in the bathroom, kitchen, laundry room, and basement. It can also be found in the attic if the roof has a leak that allows the water to get inside woodwork and insulation. Many people are now using insulation in the home that will resist moisture and provides no food supply for mold to feed on.

One reason that mold can develop and grow so easily in a kitchen and bathroom area is because of a lack of proper ventilation. In many new homes it has become a requirement to install exhaust fans that pulls moisture and humidity out of the room and sends it out of the house through vents. This does help prevent mold development, but only if people remember to use them when they bat and cook.

Mold in the laundry room can be caused by allowing damp or wet laundry to lie around. Also, if a dryer is not vented correctly, this can cause mold to grow on the ceilings and walls. This can happen even faster in a basement that is closed in and gets no fresh air or has no exhaust ventilation either.

Basements are notorious for developing mold. This can be caused because there is a crack in the foundation somewhere. It can be because there is leaking plumbing that has been left for a long time. Even the landscaping around the area near the foundation on the outside of the home can cause a basement to be damp and get mold.

If you have a mold problem in your home and have not been able to get rid of it by treating it yourself and you have added exhaust fans to help, you need to call a professional water damage company to come in and access the situation. Allowing mold to take a hold in the home is a bad mistake because it could end up causing extensive damage that might cost you thousands of dollars to repair.
