Ohio is a magnificent state that s well known for its lakes, or at least amongst bass fishing enthusiasts it is! The waters are excellent, the facilities for bass fishing beginners and experts alike good and the potential catch rate is high what more could you ask for. However, bass fishing enthusiasts think of Texas and Florida before they think about the bass fishing action in Ohio, so it is about time that the worm turned and Ohio got the credit it deserved! In that place, there is no better place to start than Columbus!
Columbus, Ohio is fantastic for bass fishing. The bass are regularly checked and are extremely healthy, of a good size and weight and actively managed by fisheries so you are guaranteed a good time whilst out on the lakes.

The guide below will give you a great introduction to Columbus, Ohio bass fishing and The Best Time To Fish Largemouth bass are found in Columbus lakes in very good numbers so you can fish all year round there. Winter bass fishing is not exactly fun because the temperatures do tend to drop below freezing in the winter months. However, the vegetation is as such that you may get a bite or two anyway!

If you want to choose the best possible time of year to visit the lakes then go for early spring or late fall. The bass love the slightly cooler temperatures and are plentiful throughout. They will be much more accessible to you at those times of year than in high summer or winter.

Choosing The Right Bait
Ohio bass fishing is versatile in that the bass are relatively active and so will take most baits. However, the ones that have had the most success in the past are spinnerbaits and rubber worms. Both can be used extremely well no matter what the weather and temperature and are fairly versatile. Another bait that experts in the area advocate is the jig-and-pig. If you want to try something a little different then that may be it!

The Lakes
And now for the most important information where to go! There are many lakes to choose from, but if you can manage it then visit all of the lakes below. I guarantee you will enjoy your stay!

Tycoon Lake - Located squarely in the Tycoon Lake Wildlife Area, Tycoon Lake is
204 acres and is home to a huge population of largemouth bass. There is abundant vegetation, which makes the fishing interesting to say the least! For the best bass fishing experience, you should try the shoreline and the floating pier towards the east of Tycoon Lake. You will find that many of the bass congregate there, thus making a bite easier for you!

Burr Oak Lake Slightly bigger than Tycoon Lake at just over 600 acres in area, Burr Oak Lake is a favourite of many bass fishing enthusiasts in the Columbus area because it has plenty of prime spots for fishing. The lake itself is thin and very long, with plenty of fallen trees on the shoreline providing cover for the bass and a perfect place to fish for you! If you do like to fish deep though, you can find depths of up to 30 feet here so it might turn out to be your bass fishing paradise!
