They are eating everything before the winter sets in and the water temperatures drop. It is a feeding frenzy for walleye. You should find the weed beds in the water. The weeds are starting to thin and the walleye are looking for the baitfish in these areas. You can easily drop a minnow right into the middle of the weed bed and hook the walleye. Keep in mind the day should be somewhat overcast. The walleye will frequent the thinning weed beds in low light because the baitfish cannot see them coming.
Fall months are also a good time to fish the rock humps. The humps will have baitfish hiding from predators in the deeper waters. The walleye will frequent the rock humps when traveling back and forth between the deep and shallow waters. The best places to fish walleye in fall are the simplest places. The bait is easy enough as well. You can use a jig with a minnow for some vertical fishing. If you have no minnows, you can use leeches or night crawlers. The jig should be heavy enough to keep the bait close to the bottom.

The bright conditions move fish into deeper water and the overcast skies send fish to the shallow waters. You might have to try a slow approach with bright conditions and a faster trolling speed when the sky is overcast. You have to fish according to the weather conditions in fall as well as other months.
