A mountainous country located in the western part of Asia, Lebanon is right on the shore of Mediterranean sea. This country has a unique flag, with a cedar in the centre flagged by the white and red stripes around it. The cedar is symbolic of all the cedar trees found around this region, which is quite rugged and uneven. There are many who beat the odds and take trips to offbeat places like Lebanon, looking forward to some adventure and excitement.

The most well preserved archaeological site in Lebanon is Aanjar. This is the only Umayyad site in the entire country, which makes it extra special. For people from other parts of the world, they can spend an entire day out here, and wonder where time flew by. The remains of the great palace and the grounds around it are what make it so fascinating. Parts of the place have been renovated, and others are in the process of being restored.

Another word for House of faith, Beiteddine is a palace where the Royal family used to live. The palace is almost like its out of a fairy tale, with its tall walls, and the tower reaching into the skies. The palace construction began in 1788 and went on for nearly 30 years, all of which are reflected from the intricate work on the walls and on every piece of art in the palace.

Jeita Grotto cave is another interesting place to see in Lebanon. A luxurious boat ride through the caves is the highlight of this place, with visitors taking a long journey and savouring the sights within the Grotto. There is a film shown within the caves about the history of the place, after this one can sit and lounge in the cafe or the restaurant within the campus. This place has been open to public for nearly 50 years, since 1958.

A visit to Lebanon and not seeing Balbeck ruins is not a done thing. The magnificent towering pillars which are all that remains of the monument is evidence of how much it has withstood. Like the Colloseum, here too, there was a gallery and it was a venue for great many battles, and all that remains are the ruins. A visit here will change the way we look at buildings, which are of historic value.

While travelling down the coastal region, the mountain region of Bcharre is one place to stop and explore. A perfect setting amidst mountains, this is where people go to trek and hike the mountains. They are not very high, so it does not take too long, but remember to bring along enough water and supplies as summers can get hot and dry. This mountain range offers the best view of the land around it, and every person who loves nature, should make a visit here before bidding goodbye to this land and this serene country.
